I would guess that the photograph was taken at Winchelsea or Rye in 1942. Are they hitching a lift, or showing off their cigarette lighters? The man on the extreme right looks very similar to the Pte C E Johnson who features on the C Company 1944 Sedjenane survivors photo. The soldier on the extreme left also features on this HQ Company photo. The photograph below is of an unidentified friend. The service dress (shiny buttons) suggests it must have been taken very early in the war |
